SEND at Iqra
At IQRA Primary School we promote an inclusive ethos and equality of opportunity for all. We strive to achieve the best outcomes for all of our children as individuals and as members of our school community. We recognise that Quality First Teaching is the greatest tool for ensuring progress for all children. Every child is valued, respected and welcomed to the school regardless of any additional educational need (AEN) . We promote equality of opportunity for disabled people: pupils, staff, parents, carers and other people who use the school.
AEN can include children identified with a Special Educational Need (SEN), English as an Additional Language (EAL), Medical needs or where children have been allocated Pupil Premium funding.

Vision
Our vision for children and young people with special needs is the same as for all children and young people – that they achieve well in their early years and at school; lead happy and fulfilled lives; and have choice and control.
Definition of SEND
A child has a learning difficulty or disability if he or she:
- has a significantly greater difficulty in learning than the majority of others of the same age, or
- has a disability which prevents or hinders him or her from making use of educational facilities of a kind generally provided for others of the same age in mainstream schools. (Code of Practice, DfE 2014)
Identification, Assessment & Provision
The school will follow the guidance contained within the Slough Council document Identifying and Supporting Special Educational Needs . Where learners are not making the expected progress and are significantly behind their peers, evidence is gathered from school, home and the learner him/herself to make a detailed assessment of need and put in place the appropriate provision. For those with more complex needs, an Educational Health and Care (EHC) Plan may be agreed. These will replace the current statements of special educational needs over the next three years.
Complaints
As stated in our SEND policy, if a parent or guardian is concerned about SEND provision for their child, initial contact should be made with the class teacher. A meeting will be arranged, which may include the Headteacher and/or Inclusion Manager, to discuss the concern.
In the event of a formal complaint concerning SEND provision, parents/guardians are advised to contact the Headteacher and follow the school Complaints Procedure.
