Educating children about the plight of refugees...

Educating children about the plight of refugees and getting them involved in collecting donations is the aim of Refugee Relief in Slough and Maidenhead.

On Thursday, March, 10 the Iqra Primary School in Wexham Road handed over hygiene packs to Refugee Relief for them to be sent on to France. The charity has been visiting primary schools and giving assemblies on the help that refugees in the Calais and Dunkirk camps need.

Ruth Talbot, a volunteer with Refugee Relief, said: “We have been going in to give a presentation at the schools to explain what it is like in these camps. The schools approve everything we present at the school, we want to be honest with the children but we don’t want to scare them.

“The responses we have had have been fantastic and everyone is very keen to help.”

Refugee Relief, which set up last autumn, is a group of friends from Slough and Maidenhead who try to make a difference to those living in migrant camps. It runs under the charity umbrella of Foodshare Maidenhead.
