MFL Intent, Implication and Impact Statement
At Iqra Primary, our Modern Foreign Language (Arabic) curriculum is vibrant and inclusive, thoughtfully designed to embrace the diverse backgrounds of our learners while aligning with the National Curriculum. In partnership with the British Council, we offer unique projects that enrich our pupils' language experiences - like engaging in Arabic storytelling as a media production. This collaboration not only enhances language skills but also connects our children with peers across the UK and beyond, expanding their global perspective. The British Council recognises Arabic as one of the top five languages essential to the UK in the coming decades, preparing our students for a multilingual future.
"Learning Arabic empowers you to engage with profound texts and the wisdom of centuries."
As Iqra Primary School is a faith-based Islamic school, our MFL curriculum is rooted in our Islamic ethos, with the Arabic language at its core. We aim to equip children with the knowledge and skills needed to become proficient and independent communicators in Arabic which is the primary source of spiritual guidance in the Quran. Starting from EYFS and continuing through to Year 6, our curriculum emphasises the development of essential skills in speaking, listening, reading, and writing. We foster a love for languages through creative activities, songs, and rhymes that inspire curiosity and enthusiasm, encouraging learners to express themselves and engage meaningfully with the language and its speakers.
By promoting effective communication and practical language use, our program opens doors to new ways of thinking and endless possibilities for learning additional languages.
"To learn Arabic is to embark on a journey of discovery, connecting you with millions of speakers and their stories."
