At Iqra Primary School, we believe that high-quality Art and Design lessons ignite creativity and provide pupils with a rich visual, tactile, and sensory experience, allowing them to explore and respond to the world around them in meaningful ways.

"Art enables us to find ourselves and lose ourselves at the same time."
— Thomas Merton

Our Art curriculum offers children the chance to develop their artistic abilities using a wide range of media and materials. Whether it's drawing, painting, printing, collage, textiles, 3D work, or digital art, children are encouraged to experiment with different techniques and express their creative ideas. By exploring and evaluating various artistic styles, they gain confidence and a deeper understanding of the creative process.

In Design and Technology, our curriculum is thoughtfully structured, offering a sequence of lessons that ensure children build progressively on their knowledge and skills, as outlined in the National Curriculum. We aim to inspire children through hands-on, practical experiences that challenge them to create innovative designs that solve real-world problems.

"Design is intelligence made visible."
— Alina Wheeler

Our Design and Technology curriculum blends skills, knowledge, concepts, and values, helping children develop their problem-solving abilities, analytical thinking, and practical skills. Wherever possible, we connect learning to other disciplines such as mathematics, science, engineering, computing, and art - highlighting the interdisciplinary nature of design.

At Iqra, we encourage our pupils to be innovators and risk-takers. Through an iterative design process, they learn to identify and evaluate real-world problems, assess existing products, and take creative risks to design and develop solutions. We also explore key events and individuals who have shaped the world through design and technology, inspiring our children to become the next generation of creators and innovators who will make a lasting impact on society and the environment.
