Geography Intent, Implementation and Impact Statement

Geography NC POS

"The study of geography is about more than just memorising places on a map. It’s about understanding the complexity of our world, appreciating the diversity of cultures that exist across continents. And in the end, it’s about using all that knowledge to help bridge divides and bring people together." Barack Obama

At Iqra Primary School, our geography curriculum opens up the world for our students, helping them explore how it has evolved over time.

We aim to teach not only geographical facts and knowledge, but also to develop essential geographical skills. Our curriculum encourages children to engage with larger global concepts such as human interaction, place, significance, processes, and change. By following the National Curriculum and integrating geography into our broader topics, we place great emphasis on building geographical knowledge and expanding pupils' vocabulary.

Our goal is to spark a lasting curiosity and fascination about the world and its people - one that stays with our pupils for life. Through geography, we help children develop a sense of place while exploring and understanding the man-made and natural processes that shape our planet. We equip children with a deep understanding of diverse places, cultures, resources, and both natural and human environments, encouraging them to appreciate the Earth’s key physical and human processes.

As children progress, their growing geographical knowledge helps them grasp the complex interactions between physical landscapes and human activities, and how these shape and transform environments over time. We foster confidence and hands-on learning through various day trips, workshops, and local fieldwork, allowing children to explore the world around them and experience geography beyond the classroom.
